Gabe Aponte is an Interim Deputy Director (April 2026-March 2027) in the Human Resources Department, overseeing Talent Acquisition, Classification & Compensation, Learning & Development, and Workforce Engagement & Community Partnerships. Gabe began his County career as a Human Resources Technician in 2008 and moved into progressively responsible roles prior to his current appointment. He is passionate about building programs that help employees grow in their careers and leveraging technology to modernize how HR delivers its services.
Gabe earned his MPA from San Francisco State University, where he currently sits on the University's MPA Advisory Board. He is a PSHRA Senior Certified Professional and serves on the PSHRA Bay Area Board as Immediate Past President, and is a Management Appointee to the County's Deferred Compensation Advisory Committee. Gabe is also an alumnus of Leadership Council San Mateo County's Emerging Leaders Program (Class of 2024).
Outside of work, Gabe spends his evenings tag-teaming with his wife shuttling their four children between ice hockey, ballet, and cheer practice – and weekends doing the same at games and competitions. When he's not in the bleachers, Gabe is training for his first full marathon in 2027, fueled nearly entirely by Netflix documentaries on the treadmill.
