This project implements ecologically restorative forest health and fuels reduction treatments on approximately 541 acres strategically located throughout Pescadero Creek County Park. General treatments include mechanical mastication and handwork, which will reduce the density of understory vegetation, ladder fuels, and dead, dying and diseased trees to improve biodiversity and resiliency against wildfire, drought, pests, and climate change.

This project was approved by the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors at their April 8 meeting. It is funded by a CAL FIRE Forest Health Grant and managed by San Mateo RCD with the consultation of Auten Resources Consulting. The Forest Health Program is part of California Climate Investments (CCI), a statewide initiative that puts billions of Cap-and-Invest, formerly known as Cap-and-Trade, dollars to work reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening the economy and improving public health and the environment — particularly in disadvantaged communities.

This project is expected to continue through fall 2028.
