The Board of Supervisors, at the April 8, 2025 meeting, authorized San Mateo County Parks and San Mateo Resource Conservation District to implement planned forest management projects detailed in Pescadero Creek County Park’s Climate and Habitat Resiliency Plan using CAL FIRE Forest Health Grant Program funds.
The plan, developed after the 2020 CZU Lightning Complex Fire that burned more than 2,800 acres in the park, focuses on nurturing native species and habitats for improved forest resiliency by reducing fire fuel load. The Board’s approval includes sale of raw felled timber removed during the project to benefit ecological function of the forest and that can’t be used for mulch or habitat features. Any revenue would only be used for forest restoration efforts in Pescadero Creek Park.
