It's harbor seal pupping season, and beach access near the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve parking lot is currently blocked where seals have hauled out to the beach to rest with their young. It’s crucial that you stay out of areas marked by cones and give the moms and pups the space they need to feel safe.

Some tidepools may be accessed from Seal Cove, but there, too, visitors will find coned off areas where they must keep their distance from harbor seals.

During harbor seal pupping season, seal moms often return to the water and forage for food. It's common to see a harbor seal pup alone on the beach. This typically indicates mom is offshore hunting for food. Do not approach pups as this could be detrimental to their health and safety.
