Moss Beach Highway 1 Congestion and Safety Improvement Project (San Mateo County & San Mateo County Transportation Authority)

The San Mateo County Transportation Authority (TA) Board of Directors approved funding for the County's proposal to begin Project Initiation along Highway 1 in Moss Beach. The County and TA, in cooperation with Caltrans, will study traffic flow and safety improvements from 16th Street to Cypress Avenue. Project Approval and Environmental Studies is expected to begin in summer 2024.

Midcoast Multimodal Trail Project (San Mateo County Planning & Building Department and San Mateo County Department of Public Works)

The Midcoast Multi-Modal Trail (Trail) is a bicycle and pedestrian commuter trail that will provide an alternative means of transportation for residents of the Midcoast to safely access neighboring communities, town centers, schools and recreational destinations without having to travel on the highway. The first segment of the trail between Mirada Road north to Coronado Street has been implemented; visit the Department of Public Works webpage to learn more. Beginning in summer 2024, the County will be receiving technical assistance from the Metropolitan Transportation Commission to do preliminary evaluation of the section on Carlos Street, between Etheldore/Vallemar and Highway 1.

SM-1 Multi-Asset Roadway Rehabilitation (Caltrans)

This project proposes to rehabilitate the existing pavement, upgrade Transportation Management Systems, signal upgrades, Traffic Operations System elements, improve drainage, and implement Complete Streets elements (curb ramps, crosswalks, Class I/II bike path, and sidewalks) in and near SR-1 from Wavecrest Road (City of Half Moon Bay) to 0.1 mile south of Marine Boulevard.
