New ADA accessible picnic sites and restroom, plus interpretive area
San Bruno Mountain’s Day Use Improvement Project construction will begin May or June 2025. The area’s redesign is focused on accessibility and was guided by community input gathered through surveys conducted between 2022 and 2023.
When complete, six of the park’s nine new picnic sites will be fully accessible to people of all abilities. Picnic sites will feature new BBQ grills, tables and trash receptacles and will be configured in 1, 2, or 4 table groupings. All sites will be connected by circular paved pathway. Picnic site use will continue to be available on a first come, first served basis.
Near the park's main entrance, a new, larger restroom will be constructed featuring four all-gender and ADA accessible toilet rooms with sinks and changing tables. Interpretive displays and an exhibit and gathering space similar in size to the restroom will be located nearby.
During construction, some parts of the day use area will be unavailable. The entire project is expected to be complete this summer.
The $2 million improvement project is funded by Measure K. Board Supervisor David Canepa, advocated for park improvements and Measure K funding.
