On Monday, September 16, work begins on a project to enhance public safety by maintaining already existing fuel breaks and shaded fuel breaks along a 4.3-mile network of fire roads in Sam McDonald Park. Trails will be closed in two areas of the park on weekdays only from 8:00am to 4:00pm.
Monday, September 16 through Monday, September 30
- Towne Fire Road – trail markers 35–27
- East Brook Trail – trail markers 36–28
- Trail near the Hiker's Hut area – trail markers 31–30
- Heritage Grove Trail – trail markers 30–25
Tuesday, October 1 through Friday, November 1
- Towne Fire Road – trail markers 27–16
- Ridge Fire Road – trail markers 26–6
- Big Tree Trail (all)
These trails will be open on Saturdays and Sundays and on October 14, Indigenous Peoples Day/Columbus Day. Work may go past November 1 if there are any delays due to weather conditions or equipment malfunction.
