Closed Trails Throughout Pescadero Creek Park
Equestrians and hikers visiting and staying at Sam McDonald Park this summer, please note that trails throughout nearby Pescadero Creek Park are closed while crews conduct forest health and fuel reduction work. This project is funded by CAL FIRE Forest Health Grant as part of California Climate Investments and is managed by San Mateo County Parks, San Mateo RCD and Auten Resources Consulting. Your patience and understanding are greatly appreciated as we work to improve the overall health of the forest and help ensure access in the future.
The following trails and areas are expected to remain closed through Memorial Day:
- West Brook Trail is closed to equestrians throughout the summer for a separate culvert replacement project.
- Camp Pomponio Road from its entrance on the north side of the park to trail marker 72
- Towne Fire Road between trail markers 34 & 52
- Bravo Fire Road
- Lower Towne Fire Road
- Jones Gulch Trail between trail markers 40 & 64
- East Brook Trail between trail markers 34 & 51
- Pomponio Trail between trail markers 38 & 70
- Canyon Trail
- Bear Ridge Trail
- Shaw Flat Trail
- Shaw Flat Trail Camp
- Park Gulch Trail
- The Tarwater Trailhead and parking lot will remain closed, as well as the Tarwater Trail Camp

Single-Track Hiking Trails Closed to Equestrians
All single-track hiking trails in Sam McDonald Park are closed to equestrians throughout the winter to prevent trail erosion. Trails will reopen once the wet season has subsided.
