Yesterday, Tuesday, April 7, San Mateo County Parks was proud to rally at the Downtown Redwood City Fire Department Headquarters with fellow employees, leaders, and elected officials to appeal for inclusion in the State budget of in-lieu Vehicle License Fee (VLF) revenue that is legally owed to San Mateo County and its cities.
These funding challenges, the result of an outdated State funding mechanism, have the potential to impact Parks operations, including maintenance, natural resource management, fuel mitigation, staffing, and critical infrastructure like roads and paving that support safety and access. While funding sources like VLF aren’t always visible day-to-day, they play an important role in supporting the services the Parks Department provides.
