Flood Park Closed Wednesdays for Pest Management
The San Mateo County Parks Department will conduct pest management activity to reduce the population of ground squirrels in Flood Park in coordination with U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) staff.
The next round of management activity requires a series of closures of the park during September and October 2026.
All facilities, including the bike pump track, multi-use field, sports courts, and walking paths will be closed during this work.
The park will be closed on the following days:
- Wednesday, September 9
- Wednesday, September 16
- Wednesday, September 23
- Wednesday, September 30
- Wednesday, October 7
- Wednesday, October 14
- Wednesday, October 21
- Wednesday, October 28
Qualified Parks and USDA biologists continue to monitor the work and will determine if further action is required.
The planned management techniques are humane and safe to the public, domesticated animals, and non-targeted wildlife outside of burrows. No poison will be used. All treatment methods are conducted in accordance with the USDA and American Veterinary Medical Association standards. San Mateo County Park and USDA staff will be present while work is conducted.

Future Baseball, Large Multi-use Field, and Playground Remain Closed
With the completion of Phase 1 of the Realize Flood Park project, several new and updated facilities have opened for park visitors to enjoy. However the areas containing the future baseball diamond, large multi-use sports field, and playground remain closed for construction. The new playground is expected to open in fall 2026.
