The San Mateo County Office of Arts and Culture and the Arts Commission is excited to present our first Countywide Celebration of Arts and Culture for the entire month of August. The theme, "Building Community through the Arts" is focused on highlighting the exciting and diverse programs, activities, and events happening in our County. Join us on Saturday, August 27th 12:00-3:00pm for an exciting and free event at San Mateo’s Central Park Outdoor Stage featuring a public space for all to enjoy performances including dance, music, spoken poetry, theatre and more. We invite you to share in the joy and delight these diverse talented artists and organizations bring to our community.
Bring your family, friends and a picnic to enjoy:
- Musicians will entertain us with Arabic, American/Irish pop folk songs, jazz, and opera
- Poets will inspire us with free verse, narrative, and spoken word styles
- Dancers will kick up their heels in the tradition of ballet, South Indian classical, Folklorico, and dances that tell a story
- Actors will use their magic leaving you to want more
Performances by:
ALAS, Aswat Ensemble (Zawaya), Casa Circulo Cultural, Daly City Youth Poet Laureate Program, Megan Duffy Brown, Fuse Theatre, Keiki Leni, Mannakin Dance, Karl McHugh, Peninsula Ballet Theatre, South San Francisco High School Jazz Band, Step It Up Dance, Avantika Swaminatha, VSDA Team/Vishwa Shanti, and an art exhibition featuring Art Bias and other County artists.
A participatory 8x8’ mural commemorating San Mateo sculptor Ruth Waters and her contributions to the art community will be presented at the event.
