PROJECT SUMMARY DISTRICT 3 (Supervisor Don Horsley): FY 2016-17 Measure A Request Geotechnical Study on the Replacement of a Water Tank in Loma Mar

Transfer $13,000 in Measure A Funds to the Parks Department

San Mateo County Parks acquired the Loma Mar Redwoods property from the San Mateo County Office of Education in 2014. Loma Mar Mutual Water and Improvement Company (“Loma Mar Mutual”) utilized a water tank site on the property mentioned above since the 1930s.

The Parks Department is developing a new use agreement to allow Loma Mar Mutual to continue utilizing the current water tank site and the gravity-fed water system from the location. This system provides drinking water for this small 34-hookup system in the unincorporated rural area of the County.

Loma Mar Mutual and the San Mateo County Resource Conservation District are prepared to utilize grant funding from the State to install four 4,999-gallon tanks on graveled pads and remove an aging 40,000-gallon tank. Prior to completing a new use agreement, County Parks will assess any geotechnical hazards that could preclude or inform the work at the site. The proposed Measure A funding will enable Parks to complete the geotechnical assessment to evaluate site conditions and the potential for geological risks at the location.

The proposed geotechnical investigation for the proposed tank construction will include preparation of a detailed topographic survey of the future and existing tanks sites and borings for subsurface exploration. This work will result in a detailed engineering geologic map of the area including identification of any potential geotechnical hazards and analysis to inform the Parks Department’s use agreement terms. County Parks has received a bid from Cotton Shires, a County Parks on-call contractor, indicating that he work can be completed with the $13,000 requested from Measure A.

Total Measure A Request: $13,000
