Starting July 1, 2026, Medi-Cal will no longer cover regular dental services for some adults, except emergencies. If you applied for Medi-Cal before January 1, 2026, you can continue to use your full dental benefits until June 30, 2026.
This change applies if you:
- Recently gained Legal Permanent Resident status or Non-VAWA (Violence Against Women Act) status
Note: some individuals are exempt from the five-year waiting period.
- Recently paroled into the US for less than one year
- Are currently enrolled in full scope Medi-Cal with a pending application for Asylum or U-Visa, are in a Temporary Protected Status, or have a pending Special Immigrant Juvenile Status.
* Please note, if you are under age 26 and were in foster care on your 18th birthday or you are currently pregnant or within one year from the end of your pregnancy, your dental services will not change.
- Important to know:
You can still get care for emergency dental needs, including:
- Serious tooth pain
- Infections
- Tooth extractions
