Senior citizens are the foundation of our community.  Elder abuse, and specifically elder financial abuse, is one of the fastest growing crimes. In 2011 alone, seniors in the United States suffered an estimated loss of $2.9 billion due to financial exploitation. Elder physical abuse and neglect are also on the rise.

The San Mateo County District Attorney's Office is proud to partner with Aging and Adult Services, the Public Guardian, and County Counsel on our new County-wide elder and dependent adult protection initiative, EDAPT (Elder and Dependent Adult Protection Team). Please click on the following link http://smchealth.org/elderabuse to learn more about this program, including resources on how to recognize and prevent elder abuse, as well as information on how to get help for victims.

To report suspected elder abuse in San Mateo County, please contact Aging and Adult Services' 24 Hour Abuse Hotline at (800) 675-8437, or click here for more information. If your situation is an emergency, call 911 and speak to your local law enforcement agency.

We are glad to offer the California Senior Gateway link to assist our seniors in finding resources and services regarding a wide range of topics.
