Description:

The San Mateo District Attorney's Office is seeking applications from attorneys interested in volunteering as a Deputy District Attorney. The ideal candidate is a lawyer who has demonstrated interest in the field of criminal prosecution, but no prior work experience is required. Volunteer attorneys serve as sworn deputies who handle daily criminal calendars, research, write and argue motions and briefs, and may have the opportunity to conduct misdemeanor jury trials.

Volunteer attorney positions are full-time and require a minimum commitment of six months. Volunteer attorneys interested in full-time employment may be offered a formal interview at the completion of their six months of volunteer work.

Requirements:

Applicants must possess a J.D. degree from a law school approved by the American Bar Association and be a current, active member of the California State Bar. Successful candidates must pass a criminal background investigation including a fingerprint check.
