Law Clerk Program
The District Attorney’s Office offers both volunteer and paid summer clerkship opportunities to law students, and Post- Bar clerkships for graduates who are awaiting the results of the California State Bar Exam.
2L and Post-Bar law clerks will be expected to perform duties within the office which substantially mirror the responsibilities of an entry level Deputy District Attorney. Law clerks are required to be certified by the California State Bar through the Practical Training of Law Students program so they can appear in court, under the supervision of an attorney, and handle preliminary hearings as well as evidentiary and legal motions. Law Clerks will also be given various written assignments ranging from legal memos to motions and appeals. We are seeking ethical, committed, talented, and hard-working individuals to advocate on behalf of the People of the State of California as criminal prosecutors. This experience will provide participants with significant exposure to this area of legal practice and potential consideration for employment in the future. Clerks who receive a cash stipend our expected to work 40 hours a week.
Volunteer clerkships are also available to individuals who have completed their First Year of law school and will be comprised of legal research and writing.
All volunteer clerkships require a minimum work commitment of 24 hours per week.
