DISTRICT 4 (Supervisor Warren Slocum) FY 2016-17 Measure K Request

One-Time Grant of $37,500 to Service League of San Mateo County for Repairs and Improvements to Hope House and Transitional Housing in Redwood City

The Service League of San Mateo County (“Service League”) is a non-profit agency that, among other activities, delivers programs and services to individuals recently released from the correctional system, substance abuse programs, and the homeless at housing sites in the community. This is a one-time request for a $37,500 grant that will promote the health and comfort of residents living in the Service League housing by funding repairs and improvements to the following Service League housing facilities in Redwood City: Hope House and Transitional Housing. The repairs and improvements described below are expected to be completed by June 30, 2017.The County Manager’s Office will administer and manage the proposed grant agreement.

The Hope House for Women and Infants (“Hope House”) is a residential substance use disorder treatment facility for women, pregnant women, and women with infants located at 3789 Hoover Street, Redwood City. The following repairs and improvements are proposed for the Hope House at 3789 Hoover Street:

  • Fence: $3,900
  • Roof and gutters: $9,300
  • Washing machine: $1,350

The Hope House for Women and Infants (“Hope House”) is a residential substance use disorder treatment facility for women, pregnant women, and women with infants located at 3787 Hoover Street, Redwood City. The following repairs and improvements are proposed for the Hope House at 3787 Hoover Street:

  • Roof and gutters: $17,600
  • Stove: $950

The Transitional Housing for Women facility serves graduates from substance use disorder treatment. It is located at 1143 Marsh Road, Redwood City. The following repairs and improvements are proposed for the Transitional Housing for Women facility:

  • Window replacement: $700
  • Roof maintenance: $900

The Transitional Housing for Men facility serves graduates from substance use

disorder treatment, men who are released from the correctional system, and men that are homeless. It is located at 96 Buckingham Avenue, Redwood City. The following repairs and improvements are proposed for the Transitional Housing for Men facility:

  • Stackable washer/dryer unit: $2,800

Total One-Time Measure K Request: Not to Exceed $37,500

The release of funds will be contingent on the execution of a grant agreement providing for the County’s confirmation of the expenditure of funds for the purposes stated herein.
