Nicholas joined the County Executive’s Office in 2026. His responsibilities include coordinating with County departments to ensure efficient and effective municipal services are delivered to all residents of unincorporated communities throughout San Mateo County as well as guiding County economic development initiatives.  
 
Nicholas first joined the County in 2011 as a legislative aide to former County Supervisor Don Horsley. As an aide, Nicholas liaised between the supervisor’s office, County departments and communities on the San Mateo County coastside to develop and implement impactful policies, programs and projects. In 2019, Nicholas became San Mateo County Parks director where he led the department through the COVID-19 pandemic and CZU Lightning Complex fires. During his tenure, Nicholas oversaw large capital projects and an expansion of services including the Realize Flood Park project, Tunitas Creek Beach Improvement Project, Quarry Park Pump Track project, off-leash dog recreation pilot program and Huckleberry Flat campground. He also led efforts to strength community partnerships. 
 
A lifelong resident of San Mateo County, Nicholas graduated from Junipero Serra High School before earning a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from the University of Arizona and a Master of Public Administration from Golden Gate University.  Nicholas lives in San Mateo County with his wife and two children.
