Redwood City – The County of San Mateo continues to work to protect public health and safety in response to the novel coronavirus known as COVID-19.
The County of San Mateo’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) remains open to coordinate countywide response and communications in response to the situation. The EOC’s Joint Information Center will provide daily status reports Monday through Friday until further notice. Today’s report:
Donations to SMC Strong Fund Relief Campaign Top $8.2 Million
More than 1,000 donors have contributed a total of $8.2 million to the San Mateo County Strong Fund, which provides grants to individuals and families, small businesses and nonprofit groups impacted by COVID-19.
“We are pleased to see that so many donors have opened their checkbooks to help those who are really struggling during this unprecedented pandemic,” said Warren Slocum, president of the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors.
“Every dollar donated to the San Mateo County Strong Fund goes to those most in need. Seeing our community pull together like this – neighbor helping neighbor – is heartwarming and so important,” he said.

Website Now Lists Resources for Those Seeking Food Assistance
The San Mateo County website provides information and links to an array of services that can help many residents. The most recent addition is the Food Assistance page at https://www.smcgov.org/food
In addition to services provided through established programs, the page lists information about meals for students, kindergarten through high school and up to college, and the Great Plates program for seniors and at-risk older adults.
San Mateo County Health Website Expands COVID-19 Reports/Information
San Mateo County Health continues to add COVID-19 data to its website. The newest dashboard shows the number of cases and deaths in long term care facilities. A total of five dashboards tracking COVID-19 testing, number of overall cases and deaths, and hospital care and capacity, can be seen at https://www.smchealth.org/post/san-mateo-county-covid-19-data-1

San Mateo County Health has updated the number of positive cases to 1,497 as of May 11, 2020.

Callers from landlines and cellular telephones located within San Mateo County are connected with a trained service professional from 211, a confidential service available in 180 languages.
