Redwood City — The County of San Mateo is urging residents to stay safe today because, while the brunt of a hard winter storm has passed, flooded roads, downed trees and power outages remain.
County Libraries in conjunction with the Red Cross will open Community Resource Centers starting today from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at five locations. Each will provide water, snacks charging stations for phones and mobile devices.

As of this morning, some County parks are closed. Park inspections to determine damage and if they can reopen are happening today.
To report a down tree or road emergency in the unincorporated area: call the San Mateo County Department of Public Works emergency line at 650-363-4100.
To report downed wires or power lines, a power outage, gas lease or other power-related emergency, call PG&E at 800-743-5000.

Sign up for SMC Alert, the county’s primary alert and warning system to receive text, email or phone calls about life safety, fire, weather, accidents involving utilities or roadways, evacuation direction or disaster notifications.

Drive safely: Exercise extreme caution while driving. Reduce speed, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles and avoid flood roads and downed power lines. Remember, it’s safer to turn around than to drive through flood waters.
