The County of San Mateo continues to work to protect public health and safety in response to the novel coronavirus known as COVID-19.

The County of San Mateo’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) remains open to coordinate countywide response and communications in response to the situation. The EOC’s Joint Information Center will provide daily status reports Monday through Friday until further notice. Today’s report:

Revised Shelter in Place Order Expected This Week
San Mateo County Health Officer Dr. Scott Morrow, along with the public health officers of the counties of Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, and Santa Clara as well as the City of Berkeley, announced in a joint statement today that revised shelter-in-place orders largely keeping the current restrictions in place and extending them through May are expected to be shared later this week. The new order will likely include limited easing of specific restrictions for a small number of lower-risk activities. See the joint statement https://cmo.smcgov.org/press-release/joint-statement-seven-bay-area-health-officers-upcoming-extension-and-revisions

The health officers of the seven jurisdictions have been working closely together in leading a unified, regional approach, to protect the health and safety of our residents. The current shelter-in-place orders in effect across the seven jurisdictions are set to expire on May 3, 2020.

Board of Supervisors Considers Moratorium on Rent Increases
At its Tuesday, April 28 meeting, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors will consider adopting emergency regulations that place a temporary moratorium on rent increases due to COVID-19 as a necessary step to curb the spread of COVID-19 across all areas of the county.

The Board recognizes that residential tenants who are struggling to pay rents at current levels while attempting to meet other basic needs may be especially harmed by rent increases while the local emergency remains in effect and could even hinder residents from complying with state and local directives to shelter in place.  See April 28 Board agenda and items https://bit.ly/2yQyjok

SMC Strong Accepting Small Business Emergency Grant Applications
The San Mateo County Strong Fund’s (SMCSF) small businesses grant program is accepting applications at https://www.smcstrong.org/smallbusinessgrants

The goal of SMCSF is to provide emergency assistance through the San Mateo Credit Union Community Fund to small, local businesses so they can provide payroll for employees, maintain operations, meet ongoing obligations and survive the economic impacts of California’s Shelter in Place order.  All qualifying small businesses, regardless of the immigration status of the business owners, may apply.

Earlier today applicants experienced some technical difficulties due to overwhelming activity on the site.  The technical issues have been resolved and the site is now robust and ready to receive applications.
