You do not need to apply separately for dental coverage because it is a part of the Medi‑Cal program.
Effective January 1, 2024, some Medi-Cal members in San Mateo County will switch from Health Plan of San Mateo (HPSM) to Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (Kaiser). Members who stay with HPSM will continue to receive dental services through HPSM. Members who switch to Kaiser will receive dental services through the Medi-Cal Dental Fee-for-Service (FFS) program. Changing to Kaiser does not affect your Medi-Cal eligibility or benefits
If you live in San Mateo County, and are enrolled in Kaiser, you will receive dental services through dental FFS. You will need to go to a dental provider who takes Medi-Cal Dental. Do I qualify for Health Plan of San Mateo?
In San Mateo County, Health Plan of San Mateo manages the dental, health, and behavioral health services for Medi-Cal members. To receive dental coverage through Health Plan of San Mateo Dental, you must be eligible for Medi-Cal. You do not need to apply separately for dental coverage because it is a part of the Medi‑Cal program. Once you are approved for Medi-Cal, you will automatically be enrolled in Health Plan of San Mateo. You will receive a Medi-Cal card and an HPSM ID card.

After you enroll in Health Plan of San Mateo, you can find a dentist online by visiting their online provider directory here. You can download a provider directory in multiple languages, or request a printed copy at the bottom of the page here. HPSM Member Services staff can also help you find a dental provider.
