You can apply for it in person at any VA regional office. Or, you can fill out and mail a PMC request form, along with a copy of the Veteran’s death certificate and discharge papers (DD214 or other separation documents).

Headstone/Marker

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) furnishes upon request, at no charge to the applicant, a Government headstone or marker for the unmarked grave of any deceased eligible Veteran in any cemetery around the world, regardless of their date of death.

HONOR GUARD/COLOR GUARD

The rendering of Military Funeral Honors is a way to show the nation’s deep gratitude to those who, in times of war and peace, have faithfully defended our country.  This ceremonial paying of respect is the final demonstration a grateful nation can provide to the veteran’s family.  By law, military units are required to provide, at a minimum, a two-person uniformed detail to present the core elements of the Funeral Honors ceremony to include the playing of Taps, Flag Folding and Flag Presentation.

To request Honor Guard services for funeral Honors, please use the list below to contact the appropriate military service Honor Guard detachment. Additionally, please have the service members discharge papers (DD 214) on hand at the time of request. Please note that Honor Guard requests must be processed through the service components and not through local veteran organizations.
