DISTRICT 4 (Supervisor Warren Slocum) FY 2015-17 Measure K Request
“Shaping our Success” Youth Jobs Summit: $25,000 total
This is a request to authorize the transfer of $25,000 in district-specific Measure K funds to the Human Resources department to host the “Shaping our Success” Youth Jobs Summit which will prepare job-aged youth from underrepresented communities in Redwood City, East Palo Alto, Belle Haven, and North Fair Oaks for potential summer jobs as well as help them develop needed workplace skills. Sponsors include San Mateo Credit Union and San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.
The “Shaping our Success” Youth Jobs Summit will be held over two consecutive Saturdays, April 15 and April 22 at 555 Marshall Street in Redwood City.
The goal of this Summit is to bring together 120 young adults ages 16-22 from underrepresented communities in Redwood City, East Palo Alto, Belle Haven and North Fair Oaks. The youth will be mentored and empowered through training designed to boost self-confidence and increase networking, application, resume and interview skills to be successful job applicants and ultimately, employees.
Performance Measures
The following performance measures will be tracked from this event:
* Number of teens and young adults registered for the summit
* Percent of teens and young adult survey respondents who said they have more self-confidence and are motivated to apply for jobs as a results of skills they learned from the summit
* Percent of prospective employers indicating they would hire one or more youth who they interviewed at the summit for summer jobs
The total allocation request for the Youth Jobs Summit is $25,000.
