Redwood City – The County of San Mateo continues to work to protect public health and safety in response to the novel coronavirus known as COVID-19.
The County of San Mateo’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) remains open to coordinate countywide response and communications in response to the situation. The EOC’s Joint Information Center will provide status reports every Tuesday and Thursday until further notice. Today’s report:
Governor Orders Some Indoor Services Closed as COVID-19 Cases Soar
Action by Gov. Gavin Newsom yesterday to shutdown indoor dining, movie theaters, family entertainment centers and additional indoor operations in all counties, including San Mateo County, came as COVID-19 cases statewide continue to grow. Bars, both indoor and out, were also ordered closed.
“Governor Newsom’s measures further emphasize the need for all of us to do our part in stopping the spread of COVID-19,” said Dr. Scott Morrow, San Mateo County Health Officer. “That means wearing a face covering, maintaining social distancing, and limiting our activities. It’s up to us to determine our future.”
Outdoor dining is still allowed in San Mateo County and because the County is not on the state’s COVID-19 “watch list,” gyms, churches, hair salons, malls and other businesses can remain open.
The following must close statewide – including in San Mateo County – under the governor’s emergency order:
- Dine-in restaurants
- Wineries and tasting rooms
- Movie theaters
- Family entertainment centers
- Zoos and museums
- Cardrooms
- Brewpubs, breweries, bars and pubs (indoor and outdoor)
