The County of San Mateo continues to work to protect public health and safety in response to the novel coronavirus known as COVID-19.
The County of San Mateo’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) remains open to coordinate countywide response and communications in response to the situation. The EOC’s Joint Information Center will provide daily status reports Monday through Friday until further notice. Today’s report:
San Mateo County Libraries Use 3D Printers to Help Health Care Workers
San Mateo County librarians are helping fight COVID-19 through innovation and idle 3D printers to create face shields and ear savers that will help protect front-line medical staff. To date, library staff have printed over 300 ear savers and hope to print and deliver over 600 face shields in the coming weeks.
“Libraries’ innovation in using their printers to create this critical resource is phenomenal and testament to its ongoing commitment to serve the residents of our county,” said County Manager Mike Callagy. “The response to COVID-19 is bringing out the innovative spirit in many and I am so proud of our library staff.”
The face shield, which suspends clear plastic in front of the wearer’s face, adds a secondary protection layer to prevent respiratory droplets from reaching the wearer’s eyes or mouth. The ear savers are adjustable and make masks more comfortable.

COVID-19 Graphics Resource Page Expands
The County of San Mateo continues to add to the list of COVID-19 graphics and images including those that explain the Health Officer’s Order on face coverings that went into effect today.
The images can be used to meet a variety of communication needs, are offered in English, Spanish and Chinese, and are available for download at https://cmo.smcgov.org/covid-19-graphics-and-images-social-media-and-other-uses It’s not necessary to obtain permission before downloading – you have it.
