Michael Leon is the Deputy Chief Probation Officer of the Adult and Pretrial Services Division and has been with the San Mateo County Probation Department for 19 years. He began his career with the Department as a Deputy Probation Officer (DPO) in 2001. Prior to being hired by San Mateo County, he worked for 6 years in a non-profit agency in San Francisco as a Pretrial Investigator. As a Deputy Probation Officer, he worked various assignments including Domestic Violence, Drug Court, Pretrial Services, and Pathways Mental Health Court. In his last assignment as a DPO, he assisted with the development and implementation of Veterans Treatment Court. In 2013, he was promoted to Probation Services Manager I (PSM I) with oversight of the Specialty Courts Programs. His last assignment as a PSM I was supervising the Court Services Unit in East Palo Alto. In April 2018, he joined the management team and was appointed to a Director position in the Adult and Realignment Services Division.
Deputy Chief Leon has a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish, with a minor in Sociology, from the University of California, Davis, and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from San Francisco State University.
