Chris Abalos is the Deputy Chief Probation Officer of the Administrative Services Division. Prior to starting his career in probation, he worked for the Florida Department of Children and Families as a Child Protective Investigator, and for the Santa Cruz Police Department as a Crime Analyst. He was hired by San Mateo Probation in 2004 as a Deputy Probation Officer and had assignments in adult intensive supervision, sex offender supervision, and in court investigations, where he earned a Senior Deputy Probation Officer designation. He was the department’s Lead Firearms Instructor from 2010-2013 and was also a part of the Taser Instructor Team. In 2014, he worked on an Information Technology team that was tasked with implementing a new case management system to the department. He joined the department’s management team in 2015 with assignments in domestic Violence, court Investigations, and adult intensive supervision. Prior to his promotion to Deputy Chief, he served as the Director of Internal Affairs, Training, Policy, Background Investigations, and as the Custodian of Records.
Deputy Chief Abalos has a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from California State University – East Bay, and a Master’s Degree in Criminology from Florida State University.
