Redwood City – As May 1 kicks off Mental Health Month, Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS) invites residents to a series of free events and to learn about ways to cope with stress, anxiety, loneliness and more. The theme for 2024 May Mental Health Month is Heal Through Connection #SMCAgainstLoneliness.
The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office operates two correctional facilities – the Maguire Correctional Facility and the Maple Street Correctional Center. Over the past several years, the number of incarcerated persons with addiction and mental illness in the Office’s care has increased.
Youth Camp Trail Closed. On weekdays between April 11 and May 15, weather permitting, workers will be at San Bruno Mountain treating invasive weed species.

Redwood City – Gov. Gavin Newsom today announced the County will receive $14.1 million to jump-start a plan to provide housing and services for people now living in small encampments scattered from South San Francisco to Menlo Park.
SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO – The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with the County of San Mateo, Citizens for San Mateo County Gun Buyback, and partners from several law enforcement agencies, will hold an anonymous gun buyback event on Saturday, May 4, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1050 Mission Road in South San Francisco.
On May 1, San Mateo County Parks will be using an air curtain burner to reduce fire fuel in Quarry Park/Mirada Surf East and lessen wildfire risk in the area.
