  • On Halloween, Supervisor Horsley and I had a great surprise! Darci Palmer of CORE Affordable Housing called to say that she was coming to Redwood City to record the long-term ground lease that will make it possible to build the first major veterans housing development in San Mateo County.   We joined Darci to  County Recorder's Office to savor this moment. This step memorialized the Menlo Park VA’s contribution of 2 acres of land where the 60-unit, 40,000 s.f. affordable housing complex for veterans will be built and several years worth of work to bring the project to fruition. Construction is slated to begin in December 1 and the project will be completed in 2015.

The project has many proud partners! Many thanks to the following for their support of this most important project.

    • Department of Veterans Affairs
    • VA Palo Alto
    • County of San Mateo, Housing Department & Housing Authority
    • City of Menlo Park
    • California Tax Credit Allocation Committee
    • National Equity Fund
    • Silicon Valley Bank
    • HEART of San Mateo County
    • Core Affordable Housing
    • EAH Housing, Inc.
    • HomeFirst of Santa Clara County

This is the best "treat" I've ever had on Halloween.
