After months and months of public meetings and community outreach, more than 2500 people commented on the traffic design features that they hoped the planned undergrounding and redesign project would bring to the downtown area of North Fair Oaks.
The North Fair Oaks Community Council studied the matter, heard public testimony, and ultimately, unanimously approved the three-lane design that was presented. This design features a single lane of traffic in each direction with a turning lane in the middle. This design also includes bike lanes, parallel parking, and street amenities including trees, benches, public art and trash receptacles. The Council’s vision is to create a business district that is safer for all users, walkable and beautiful.
To address lingering concerns the Council has about parking and business retention, they asked the staff to prepare reports. The item will be coming to the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors for consideration on October 21.
