We want everyone who walks through our doors to feel safe and cared for. In California, survivors of sexual assault or abuse have specific rights to ensure support, justice and protection.

 

Some of your rights include

  • Right to report the crime
  • A confidential advocate Privacy: medical records, have your name be confidential in court records
  • Sexual assault forensic examination
    • To track the status of the evidence collected (“sexual assault evidence kit” or “rape kit”)
    • If you do not wish to pursue criminal charges immediately, you can request to keep the evidence collected during your exam for up to 2 years
