Detectives

Police Officers or Detectives conduct investigations to determine if a crime occurred. An investigation can take days, months, or even years. Detectives will collect physical evidence, statements during the course of an investigation. A detective will attend and view your child’s forensic interview as part of the investigation.
Your child has a right to a Confidential Advocate during a forensic interview or initial medical exam

Prosecutors

The Prosecutor, also known as a Deputy District Attorney represents the State of California. The Prosecutor may determine that there is enough evidence to bring criminal charges against the person accused of committing a crime.
You have a right to be treated with dignity and respect and to be reasonably protected from the defendant.
You have a right to talk to the prosecutor about the charges being filed, and to be notified of court hearings.
Social Workers

San Mateo County Child and Family Service (CFS) Social Workers support children and their families when extra support may be needed. The social worker will attend the forensic interview to assess your child’s safety and to develop a plan with you to ensure your child’s wellbeing. The goal of CFS is to keep children at home with their families when safe.
