Basics

Place of Birth: San Mateo, California
Raised: Palo Alto, California
Professional Background: Careers internationally and locally in hospitality, finance, academia, and Big 6 consulting.
Position most known for? Almost 20 years at Primitive Logic in all roles – especially people and culture.

Work

Job(s) held that is most unlike what I currently do now: Serving ice cream at Baskin-Robbins while in high school, but I suppose I stayed in the service industry – just professional services now.
Field: People and Operations in Technology and Consulting
Years of Experience: 30
Title: COO (Chief Operations Officer)
Organization: Primitive Logic (since 2000)
Significant Challenge: Bridging business and technical needs while focusing on mindful digital transformation for our clients.
Significant Accomplishment: Supporting continued growth of over 40% women in our company and humanizing technology with kindness and integrity.
Significant Learning: The Pareto Principle (or the 80/20 rule).
Career Advice: Stay curious.

Personal

Significant Challenge: Balance and remembering to say “no” sometimes – I can’t be in all places at all times doing all things – even if it all sounds interesting.
Significant Accomplishment: Providing time, talent, and treasure to numerous boards, committees, and service organizations – as well as lifelong learning through Vistage and other channels.
Significant Learning: Seek adventure and be grateful.
Life Advice: The joy is in the journey.
What is an issue for women/girls that stands out most for you? Gender equality, including being viewed as ASSERTIVE versus AGGRESSIVE and having a voice in the world of Technology.
Other causes you support? Habitat for Humanity, Heifer International, PBS/KQED, University of San Francisco, local shelters, human trafficking victims, etc.
Most admired people/role models: So many who have gone before and pushed at the boundaries of change

  • Jane Goodall: “Change happens by listening and then starting a dialogue with the people who are doing something you don't believe is right.”
  • Amelia Earhart: “Women must try to do things as men have tried. When they fail, their failure must be but a challenge to others.”
  • Marie Curie: “Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.”

Lifestyle

Favorite activities in your “personal downtime”: Anything in nature, time with family and friends, traveling, listening to music, reading, gardening, cooking, hiking/walking, and enjoying life.
Favorite local hangouts: Half Moon Bay, Pillar Point Harbor bluffs and beach, HMB Brewery, Caffé Mezza Luna, Westpoint Harbor bay trail at the end of Seaport Blvd in RWC, Red Morton Park, Stulsaft Park, downtown Redwood City events – including live music.
Favorite shows, movies, or books: I listen to audio books of all genres during my commute between Redwood City and San Francisco which can be up to 2 hours each way. If I watch TV, it’s usually PBS, Animal Planet, or HGTV.
Something about me that may surprise you: My family didn’t get a TV until I was in 7th grade, so I grew up reading and playing outside – and camping and traveling back to relatives in Europe.
Anything else? In kindergarten, I was that first generation, left-handed, carrot-top with the strange name who made friends with everyone and looked out for the underdog. I still love meeting new people and learning new cultures
