2021 Peninsula Council of Lions Club Police Service Awards On Monday June 14, 2021, the Peninsula Council of Lions Clubs held their annual Police and Firefighters Awards ceremony. The 55th annual (2020) award ceremony was cancelled last year due to COVID 19. The Peninsula Council of Lions Clubs decided to proceed with a virtual ceremony this year, honoring award recipients for both 2020 and 2021.
The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors adopted a proclamation declaring June 2021 as LGBTQQI2S Pride Month in San Mateo County and has ordered the Progress Pride Flag to be flown at County Center and other County facilities. Voters in the three counties served by Caltrain passed a measure that will add a one one-eighth cent sales tax in each county to help the financially struggling rail system. Measure RR will provide Caltrain an estimated $100 million annually for the next 30 years to help fund operations, including expansion of service and capacity, as well as major capital projects. The measure needs to pass by two-thirds among the ballots cast in San Francisco, San Mateo and Santa Clara counties.
The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to allocate $2 million in federal funding received from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES) to create a Child Care Relief Fund.
The San Mateo County Flood and Sea Level Rise Resiliency District has its first CEO in Len Materman. The brand new Flood and Sea Level Rise Resiliency District launched on Jan. 1. It is a collaboration of 20 cities and the county to develop coordinated plans to address current and future coastal erosion, sea level rise and flooding, and to improve regional stormwater infrastructure.
The 2020 Census gets underway soon and it’s critical that every person living in the county is counted to secure federal funding for medical services, including clinics and children’s health insurance, housing, emergency preparedness, nutrition programs, infrastructure and a host of other services.

The County of San Mateo has developed and adopted a new Transgender Policy for its employees. This policy was unanimously approved and supported by the County Board of Supervisors at its February 12 meeting. This Transgender Policy reaffirms the County’s commitment to providing a welcoming, safe, and inclusive environment for all employees.
Redwood City - Today, the San Mateo County LGBTQ Commission presented the first wellness assessment in 15 years of LGBTQ community members of San Mateo County to the Board of Supervisors. The assessment, conducted in collaboration with Public Health, Policy and Planning, a division of San Mateo County Health, sought to evaluate the attitudes of the County’s LGBTQ residents by deploying online needs assessment surveys in 2017, including different versions for adults and for youth.
