Within the last few years, in a bid to reduce wildfire risk throughout the county, Collamer and firefighters from both our unit and partnering agencies have successfully executed several prescribed fires, including 20-acres on the field between Filoli Historic House and Garden and Cañada Road. The property is on San Francisco Public Utilities Commission Watershed (SFPUC) land.

We invite you to take this one minute survey to share your thoughts. Your feedback will help the Commission focus in on a topic for the next year as well as future issues to work on. The survey will close October 9 and the LGBTQIA+ Commission will share with you what they learned. The survey is anonymous and allows us to learn a bit more about what is important to you.
On June 30, 2022 the San Mateo County Agriculture Department pest detection team found a single Oriental fruit fly (Bactrocera dorsalis) in a baited trap in Menlo Park. The team followed up with a delimitation survey that includes 40 traps within one square mile of the find. This is in addition to 80 existing traps within the 8 square miles surrounding the find. No new Oriental fruit flies have been detected. Oriental fruit flies are an invasive pest native to southern Asia, that has become established in Hawaii.

This first meeting launches a months-long public process to hear from the community about district boundaries for electing the Board of Supervisors for the next decade. Applications now being accepted for 15th and final seat on the commission Redwood City – The Board of Supervisors today appointed 14 residents reflecting the diversity of San Mateo County to the District Lines Advisory Commission.
The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors is seeking applicants interested in serving on the 2021 Supervisorial District Lines Advisory Commission. Once formed, the 11-member Commission will hold a series of public meetings to study the boundaries of the County’s five supervisorial districts. The Commission’s work will be supported by a professional demographer and County staff.
Today, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors approved $1.5 million to create the Learning Hub Expansion Fund to increase the number of students from socioeconomically disadvantaged families who can participate in “learning hubs” – programs that provide safe, supportive places for K-12 students to engage in distance learning in underserved communities. Grants will be awarded to youth-serving organizations that already run such programs.
Today, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors approved a grant of $50,750 from Measure K funds to the Boys & Girls Club of North San Mateo County (BGCNSMC) to support an emergency school aged child care program in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Today, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors approved a grant for $50,000 from Measure K funds in support of Community Equity Collaborative’s (CEC) Teacher Pipeline Project. This program offers tuition-free Early Childhood Education classes to address the shortage of high-quality child care providers in San Mateo County.
