County of San Mateo Pledges $27 Million to Support Affordable Housing

In its largest allocation to date, the County of San Mateo has pledged to invest approximately $27.6 million to build, protect and preserve affordable housing.

Two Health Care Districts to Outfit Sheriff’s Vehicles with 76 Defibrillators

The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office has met its goal of outfitting 76 vehicles with automated external defibrillators (AEDs) thanks to the generous support of the Board of Directors of the Peninsula Health Care District (PHCD) and the Board of Directors of Sequoia Healthcare District (SHD). Knowing that having the right equipment at the right time can mean the difference between life and death, both boards voted at their recent respective meeting to each fund a portion of the 76 units needed for Sheriff’s Office vehicles covering the entire county.

Board of Supervisors Approves FY2019-21 Recommended Budget

The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors today approved the Recommended Budget for Fiscal Years 2019-20 and 2020-21 — financial commitments that County Manager Mike Callagy said is a $3 billion investment in the future and our youth.

Organics-to-Energy Pilot Program in San Mateo County Aims to Reduce Waste Bound for Landfills and Produce Clean Energy

The County of San Mateo and the South Bayside Waste Management Authority, also known as RethinkWaste, are collaborating to further reduce the amount of waste being sent to landfills by converting organics into a clean energy source.

San Mateo County Publishes Mapping Application

San Mateo County has published a mapping application displaying the US Census Bureau block group data by their Hard-to-Count / Least Likely to Respond (HTC/LLTR) index score adapted to our county.  The application also contains the statewide HTC/LLTR index scores for comparison purposes.  The application may be accessed here:  https://maps.smcgov.org/census2020

County’s Historic Lathrop House Makes Big Move

Beginning May 8, 2019, crews will start inching the 1860s-era Lathrop House in the center of Redwood City’s downtown area toward its new home just across the street outside the historic courthouse currently housing the San Mateo County History Museum. The two-story, 10-room house, which is being moved to make room for the construction of a new County office building, has been relocated twice before in its history.

County of San Mateo, Cities Urge Santa Clara County to Help Hold Stanford Accountable for Impacts of Campus Expansion

The County of San Mateo and seven cities have sent a letter to the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors urging them to help hold Stanford University accountable for the anticipated impacts to housing, traffic, the environment and residents if it is allowed to expand its campus by more than 20 percent.
