Consumer fraud is on the rise, and it has come to our attention that attempts have been made to create false invoices for San Mateo LAFCo applications.
Here are some ways to keep your application transactions secure:
- If you receive a notification about outstanding fees, call (650) 363-4224 with any questions.
- San Mateo LAFCo will never request payment of fees by wire transfer. If you receive a wire request for fees, please contact LAFCo staff.
- Keep in mind that application information is public record - even if a website or person seems to have details about your application, this does not prove it is legitimate.
If you have any questions or suspect you have received a fraudulent communication, please call (650) 363-4224 or email us at lafco@smcgov.org
For more information on avoiding consumer fraud, see the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s “Fraud and scams” page.
