Redwood City – The Property Tax Highlights publication, which shows tax revenues collected and distributed to local governments operating within San Mateo County, is now available for fiscal year (FY) 2022-23.

Board Approves New Approach to Encourage Unhoused Residents in Illegal Encampments to Accept Shelter and Support

Redwood City — Calling it “inhumane” to leave individuals experiencing homelessness living in illegal and often unsafe encampments on public property when there are available shelter beds, the Board of Supervisors today unanimously approved an ordinance aimed at encouraging them to accept assistance.

HMB Airport, County Officials Disappointed Dream Machines Cancelled for 2024

Redwood City – The Half Moon Bay Airport and County of San Mateo are disappointed the annual Pacific Coast Dream Machines show will not take place this spring due to a combination of factors including increased permitting requirements by the Federal Aviation Administration.

Recruitment Begins for New Independent Civilian Advisory Commission on the Sheriff’s Office

Redwood City — The County of San Mateo is currently recruiting for its new Independent Civilian Advisory Commission on the Sheriff’s Office and is encouraging a diverse array of residents to apply. The new commission will advise the Board of Supervisors about community-police relations, accountability, transparency and public engagement. The Board created the commission in December.

New Approach Proposed to Encourage Those Experiencing Homelessness to Accept Shelter Offers

Redwood City — The Board of Supervisors, on Tuesday, Jan. 23, will consider a new approach to encourage individuals experiencing homelessness to accept offers of shelter and support. The proposed ordinance regulating encampments on public property in unincorporated San Mateo County is intended to help the County achieve its goal of making homelessness brief and rare.

Controller Releases Annual Comprehensive Financial Report

Redwood City – San Mateo County Controller Juan Raigoza recently released the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for fiscal year ending June 30, 2023. The report includes audited financial statements, analysis and other details about the County’s finances.

Pitch It or Fix It?

Construction of Tunitas Creek Beach Underway

The transformation of the 58-acre Tunitas Creek Beach property into San Mateo County’s newest park is in progress. Construction crews are working on the mid-bluff area and the access trail to the beach. The pink house has been demolished and natural material was cleared followed by rough grading. This is where most visitor services will be located, including seating, an overlook to the beach and southern bluffs, a picnic sites, interpretive panels, public restrooms, and staff facilities. Construction is anticipated to begin this spring.

The County of San Mateo Planning and Building Department's Request for Proposals (RFP) No. PLN24-0109 seeks an experienced provider who is adept at designing and delivering online Accela permitting systems; supporting staff in their use of these and other integrated systems; and implementing upgrades to these systems that increase the efficiency and effectiveness of electronic permitting procedures.
