As a dry winter turns to spring 2022 (and coming off of some of the worst wildfire years in California history), public agencies across San Mateo County are stepping up projects to reduce the threat of wildfire from Daly City to Pescadero.
The County of San Mateo has embarked on an ambitious project to reconstruct Middlefield Road in North Fair Oaks, an unincorporated community between Redwood City, Menlo Park and Atherton.
On February 9, San Mateo County Parks will present the Off-Leash Dog Pilot Program to the Planning Commission as part of the Coastal Development Permit process.

At their November 9 meeting held via video conference, the Board of Supervisors certified the Off-Leash Dog Recreation Pilot Program IS/MND and approved the pilot that will introduce off-leash dog access at Quarry Park and Pillar Point Bluff, on a trial basis. At the November 16 Board of Supervisors meeting, the ordinance allowing the pilot will be read into the County ordinance code.
A Draft Initial Study and Mitigated Negative Declaration (IS/MND) for the Off-leash Dog Recreation Pilot Program at Pillar Point Bluff and Quarry Park was posted for public review and comment from July 15 to August 13, 2021.
Vaccination continues to protect against severe COVID-19 illness, but with the COVID-19 Delta variant now infecting a small percentage of vaccinated people as well as many unvaccinated people, eight Bay Area health officers have issued Health Orders requiring masks indoors in public places. The Orders require all individuals, regardless of vaccination status, to wear face coverings when indoors in public settings, with limited exceptions, starting at 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday, August 3.
Redwood City – As an employer and a service provider, the County of San Mateo requires all employees and visitors to County facilities to wear face coverings. The requirement took effect at the start of business today (July 26, 2021). This requirement from the County does not apply to businesses, other government agencies or private employers of any type across San Mateo County.
