The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors at its meeting today honored Geri Archibald as its 2023 winner of the annual Barbara Hammerman Award, recognizing her outstanding and consistent service and passion with the prevention of intimate partner abuse.
Mid-morning on September 8, 2022, Ms. Karina Castro was brutally killed in a domestic violence incident. “As co-chairs of the San Mateo County Domestic Violence Council, Supervisor Groom and I are shocked and saddened to hear about the tragic and senseless death of Ms. Karina Castro in San Carlos on September 8, 2022. Ms. Castro is more than the headlines you will see about her death,” said Elisa Kuhl, Victim Services Program Manager of the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.
The San Mateo County Pride Center has been working hard to develop resources for the LGBTQ+ community and our allies/advocates. If it's not a training or community gathering, the Pride Center has clinical services and peer groups to offer. It has also mobilized its many years of relationships and partnerships to develop helpful guides and information that are super easy to access and download.
For Immediate Release REDWOOD CITY – The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors today passed a Proclamation declaring November 19, 2021, Transgender Day of Remembrance in the County. This Board action will be accompanied by raising and flying the Transgender flag at the Hall of Justice in Redwood City and hosting a virtual remembrance ceremony.

The County of San Mateo has developed and adopted a new Transgender Policy for its employees. This policy was unanimously approved and supported by the County Board of Supervisors at its February 12 meeting. This Transgender Policy reaffirms the County’s commitment to providing a welcoming, safe, and inclusive environment for all employees.
