Five New San Mateo County LGBTQ Commissioners Appointed

The Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender and Queer Commission of San Mateo County attracted numerous talented applicants in its latest recruitment to fill five open seats. A total of 33 applications were received from throughout San Mateo County, demonstrating keen interest in the important work of the Commission. After a thorough review by a panel comprised of two County supervisors, the Commission co-chairs and staff, five applicants were offered appointments to the Commission.

Juvenile Diversion Program

In 2018, the San Mateo County Probation Department partnered with the City of San Mateo Police Department and their Police Activities League (PAL) for a juvenile diversion program, targeting at-risk youth ages 11-17 years old. This 6-month program provides youth with individualized plans to address a youth’s deviant behavior through a multidisciplinary team comprised of a full time Deputy Probation Officer, a juvenile detective, a clinician and a case worker from the local YMCA.

July 2019 News Update: Potential ICE Activity in the Bay Area

As reported by various news sources, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) plans to initiate nationwide raids this weekend.  The Office of Community Affairs encourages everyone to become aware of their rights and to share important resources with everyone in the community.  

Peach Fruit Fly Detected in Palo Alto Leads to Search in San Mateo County

Following detection of two male peach fruit flies (PFF) in the city of Palo Alto, staff with the San Mateo County and Santa Clara County Agricultural Commissioners’ offices will place insect detection traps within a 4.5-mile radius including into Menlo Park and East Palo Alto to determine the extent of the infestation.
