San Mateo County Parks Department’s Natural Resource Manager, Hannah Ormshaw, was recently named the department’s assistant director. Ormshaw’s extensive background in natural resource management will be instrumental as the department implements its Wildfire Fuel Management Program and develops and implements plans that protect sensitive species while also providing recreational access across more than 16,000 acres throughout San Mateo County.

REDWOOD CITY – Today, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors approved a grant of up to $208,000 in Measure K Reserves to establish a San Mateo County Gun Buyback Program.
At their November 9 meeting held via video conference, the Board of Supervisors certified the Off-Leash Dog Recreation Pilot Program IS/MND and approved the pilot that will introduce off-leash dog access at Quarry Park and Pillar Point Bluff, on a trial basis. At the November 16 Board of Supervisors meeting, the ordinance allowing the pilot will be read into the County ordinance code.
A Draft Initial Study and Mitigated Negative Declaration (IS/MND) for the Off-leash Dog Recreation Pilot Program at Pillar Point Bluff and Quarry Park was posted for public review and comment from July 15 to August 13, 2021.

Redwood City – The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors today took a major step toward fulfilling a decade-long pledge to effectively end homelessness. The Board voted 5-0 to approve a key agreement with the City of Redwood City that will allow development of a 240-bed, state-of-the-art shelter east of Highway 101 off of Maple Street. The shelter, called a Navigation Center, will provide intensive counseling and other supportive services.
Redwood City – The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors today unanimously approved a revised budget for the 2021-22 Fiscal Year that will help drive the economic recovery of individuals, families and small businesses hit by the pandemic. The San Mateo Resource Conservation District (RCD) has received a $1 million grant from the State Coastal Conservancy to fund a 100-acre fire mitigation project in Quarry County Park located in El Granada. On September 8 we will begin the first phase of work, which will take approximately a week to complete.
