REDWOOD CITY - The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has given an Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting to the County of San Mateo for its Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR) for the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2014.

The prestigious national award recognizes conformance with the highest standards for preparation of state and local government popular reports. To receive this award, a government unit must publish a PAFR, whose contents conform to program standards of creativity, presentation, understandability and reader appeal.

“Our commitment to providing the taxpayers of San Mateo County with transparent, timely and relevant financial information is evidenced by the County’s receipt of this significant award for 13 consecutive years,” said Controller Juan Raigoza.

The PAFR summarizes and presents key financial information contained in the County’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for FY 2013-14, and other statistics and facts, in an easy to read and understandable manner that includes multi-year graphs to show annual changes and trends.

“The information in the PAFR helps County residents and taxpayers, who may not have an accounting or finance background, to better understand the County’s financial activities and results,” said Assistant Controller Shirley Tourel.

The CAFR, issued in November 2014, was similarly honored this year by the GFOA. T
