Frequently Asked Questions

The following are questions we often receive about supplemental property taxes. For specific information, please call us at (866) 220-0308 or visit our office.

Why did I receive a Supplemental or Escape Assessment bill after buying or selling my property?

When a property is purchased or sold, it may be reassessed to reflect a change in ownership or a correction in value. As a result, a Supplemental or Escape Assessment bill may be issued.

These bills are separate from the regular secured property tax bill and are often mailed after the close of escrow—sometimes weeks, months, or even years later—once the Assessor has processed or been made aware of the change.

Both new and prior property owners/Trustees should continue to monitor their mail and check online for any additional tax bills, even if one has not yet been received.

Please note that failure to receive a tax bill does not relieve the taxpayer of the responsibility for payment.
