About the Project
San Mateo County Parks is partnering with Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST) and the Coastal Conservancy to protect environmental resources and promote public safety at Tunitas Creek Beach. With participation from the public, the County will be developing this stunning and rugged section of coastline with proper public facilities and amenities. UPDATES
- November 2022 - Preparing for demolition phase of the existing single family home
- December 2022 - JOC Contractor and County negotiate on proposal for demolition work.
- January 2023
- Executed JOC Task Order with Olympos Construction for demolition work.
- Board approves DPW's recommendation to finalize plans and specifications and put the improvements project out to bid.
- February 2023 - 100% design in progress.
- March 2023 - House demolition work completed.
- April 2023 - 100% design complete. Project out to bid on 4/27.
- May 2023 - Open bids on 5/25. Low responsible bidder is Gordon N. Ball, Inc.
- June 2023 – Project was awarded to Gordon N. Ball, Inc. by County of San Mateo Board of Supervisors on June 13, 2023.
- July 2023 - Contract execution. The County and Contractor prepare for forthcoming construction work (Submittal and RFI Review).
- August 2023 - Contractor mobilizes on 8/29.
- September 2023 - Contractor works on clearing and grubbing and construction fencing to secure the site.
- October 2023 - Contractor starts on landslide mitigation area, and clear and grub the south access trail.
- November 2023 - Contractor importing soil and continues working on landslide mitigation work. Started installing storm drainage from Upper Lot to Mid-Bluff area.
- December 2023 - Contractor continues working on landslide mitigation work and installing storm drainage from Upper Lot to Mid-Bluff area. Cleared ADA Pathway.
- January 2024 to March 2024 – Project site is winterized.
- April 2024 - Contractor commences construction activities.
- May 2024 - Contractor working on landslide mitigation, storm drain, beach access road, and ADA trail.
- June 2024 - Contractor is working on the beach access road, finishing installing storm drain facilities, ADA trail and retaining walls, amphitheater area, restroom building pad, and grading the parking lot area.
- July 2024 - Contractor completed work on the beach access road and retaining walls. Work on grading the ADA trail, amphitheater area, restroom and ranger shed building pads, installing a waterline and electrical conduits, and grading the parking lot area are ongoing.
- August 2024 - Contractor continued working on installing joint trench, amphitheater area, wood decks, ranger shed foundation, building foundation, and septic tank. Work on CMU walls, parking lots, bioretention areas, pedestrian stairs, wood decks are ongoing.
- September 2024 - Contractor is continuing to work on CMU ranger and restroom buildings at the midbluff, construction of the amphitheater area, and installation of bioretention areas, curbs, utility conduits, trail, and grading at the upper parking lot area.
Temporary traffic control measures are in place along Highway 1 shoulder. Highway 1 work is anticipated to be completed by mid to late September.

October 2024 - Hwy 1 shoulder work is completed.
Contractor is continuing to work on CMU ranger and restroom buildings at the midbluff, construction of the amphitheater area, ADA trail handrail layout, south loop trail, and installing curbs at the upper parking lot area.
