Construction Updates
April 2025:
The County continues to research grant opportunities for long-term repair of Mirada Road. The County submitted a Notice of Interest for the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) grant opportunity through the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The County has been working with the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services in the development of the grant application for the past several weeks. The grant application would develop design alternatives, perform community outreach, develop a project design and include environmental clearance for the project, allowing us to seek further grant funding for construction.
However, on April 4, 2025, the Department of Homeland Security announced the cancellation of all BRIC 2024 sub applications, effective immediately. That announcement can be found here:
As a result, the County is now exploring alternative grant opportunities to support the long-term plan. Without grant funding, the project is currently on hold.
January 2025:
The County submitted a regular Coastal Development Permit (CDP) to the California Coastal Commission (CCC) for their authorization of this completed emergency project. As required by the CCC, a post-project 'Notice of Pending Permit' will be posted at the job site.
The County of San Mateo Department of Public Works is pleased to announce the successful completion of repairs to damaged sections of Mirada Road. This achievement follows extensive efforts to address damage caused by tidal wave action during the recent winter storms. Additionally, the Department enhanced the roadway’s resilience by reinforcing the existing rock slope protection with additional rock to help mitigate the impact of future tidal wave events.
