Dana Johnson, MSW (They/Them/Theirs) is a gender non-binary masculine of center community activist, entrepreneur, workshop facilitator, and mentor. Dana received a master’s degree in Social Work from Cal State University East Bay, a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from San Francisco State University, and a variety of professional certifications.
Dana’s an Author of the memoir TherActivist: They/ Them/ Theirs, a book embracing Identity, Intersectionality, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. The TherActivist embodies a therapeutic activism approach, while servicing and empowering people of color, LGBTQ+ communities, and marginalized populations.
For approximately sixteen years, Dana has provided counseling to at-risk youth for San Mateo County Probation department. They are also a certified Standard and Training Correction (STC) workshop facilitator providing LGBTQ+ training to law enforcement staff, educating and addressing the importance of LGBTQ+ inclusiveness in the law enforcement field. They are a co-chair of the PRIDE Initiative, a health equity Initiative of the Office of Diversity and Equity. They have co-coordinated the San Mateo County LGBTQ+ Pride Celebration since 2016 and have been on the coordinating committee since its existence in 2012.
Dana is motivated in assisting in the implementation of inclusive policies and protocols and is passionate about providing LGBTQ+ equity services, social justice services, and activism to marginalized communities. Dana is a member of a Transgender Coalition subcommittee for the County of Santa Clara. They are also a certified Recognize Intervene Support Empower (RISE) Trainer. A Fellow of Equality of California Institute Leadership Academy, Dana is working with other community leaders to help bring visibility, resources, social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion to LGBTQ+ communities. When they are not working, Dana enjoys taking a self-care walk/hike, catching a movie, watching sports, and spending time with their family and friends.
