Public Works personnel maintain and service county-maintained streetlight fixtures on both PG&E and County owned poles within the County Lighting Districts. Public Works does not maintain PG&E poles or any other PG&E or utility company equipment that the poles contain. PG&E provides electricity and an electrical connection to each county-maintained streetlight. PG&E is paid a fixed monthly fee for electrical energy to these fixtures. District revenue is provided by an annual assessment on tax bills for properties located in County Lighting Districts.

Report a Streetlight Outage
District personnel depend upon residents and property owners to report streetlight outages and damages. Residents can report outages by phone or email. Voice messages can be left on a 24-hour line by dialing 650-599-1407. The line is checked during business hours. Email may be sent to streetlights@smcgov.org. For prompt service, please specify the nearest address to the pole, including the city, and/or a streetlight number, which may be found on the pole about 6-feet from the ground. Additionally, indicate your name and phone number so staff can contact you for clarifications and notify you of any repair delays. A District electrician services and repairs streetlight outages reported to the District usually within ten working days.
For urgent matters concerning county-maintained streetlights please call 650-363-4100.
