About the Project

The County of San Mateo Department of Public Works has contracted with Andreini Bros, Inc. to complete the Emergency Mirada Road Bridge Temporary Bluff Protection Project (Project), in the community of Miramar, near Half Moon Bay, in San Mateo County. This project is to protect the exposed bluff face and seawall edge at the north and south sides of the pedestrian bridge in anticipation of a stronger than usual storm season this upcoming winter due to El Niño conditions. Flexible Intermediate Bulk Containers (FIBCs’ or large sandbags) will be installed on the beach to provide a barrier and dissipate the wave energy as it reaches the bluff.

Anticipated Start Date

Installation work will begin on November 3, 2026. Residents nearby will receive advance notice from the contractor.

Work Schedule

Construction work will typically occur Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m and will last for approximately two to three weeks.

Road and Bridge Closures

The Mirada Road pedestrian bridge may be closed during work hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., along with portions of the road directly adjacent to the bridge. The road and bridge will be reopened by 5:00 p.m. each day and will remain open during weekends. The County and contractor will make every effort to maintain pedestrian access through or around the work area, based on construction operations, available space, and public safety conditions. Pedestrian access may be temporarily restricted or unavailable during certain activities when necessary to safely complete the work.

Traffic and Parking Impacts

Parking in the work area will also be restricted during work hours. Please adhere to all posted “No Parking” signs. Personal vehicles should be moved out of the area prior to 8am on workdays.

Beach Access

The beach will generally remain open during work; however, portions of the beach will be blocked off for public safety. Additionally, the staircase located on the southern side of the pedestrian bridge may be closed if it is determined that construction activities will impact stairs access and public safety.

Project Updates During Construction

The County will share weekly project updates, including construction progress, anticipated work activities, and any pedestrian, road, bridge, parking, or beach-access limitations for the following week.
